Heritage Buildings

Ball's Falls HomesteadHighlights include original features such as:

  • Ball flour and grist Mill — Constructed in 1807-1809, the first of four mills to be constructed by the Ball family.
  • Ball home — Built in 1845 by local mason, Newton Perry.
  • Lime Kilns — Kilns were used to process the rich limestone deposits of the Niagara Escarpment. Limestone was used for mortar and agricultural purposes.
  • Woollen Mill Ruins — Traces of a five-storey woollen mill was constructed in 1824. A long raceway funnelled water from the Twenty Mile Creek to a water wheel that powered the milling machinery.

Conservation Area Rules & Regulations

  • Conservation Area open during designated/posted times
  • No motorized vehicles
  • All pets must be on a leash at all times;
  • No pets permitted at special events (Certified Working Dogs allowed)
  • No removal of wood, plant or soil
  • No disturbance of animal life
  • No alcoholic beverages permitted (SOP permit functions excepted)
  • No swimming
  • No open fires
  • No metal detectors
  • Visitors must stay on marked trails
  • Deposit all litter in designated containers
